You went to therapy. You journaled. You found the limiting belief, bought the course, repeated the affirmation and had at least one breakthrough in a suspiciously expensive notebook. And yet, there it is. The same fear. The same business drought. The same pattern wearing a slightly different outfit.
Kristen Gerlanc has a question that might make your logical brain raise an eyebrow: What if you correctly identified the symptom—but completely misdiagnosed its source? Gerlanc spent 10 years as a clinically trained mental-health professional before leaving the field. Today, she works as a spiritual coach and full-time medium, combining her clinical background with modalities including Spiritual Response Therapy, hypnosis, tarot, and energetic work.
Her specialty? Helping high-achieving entrepreneurs investigate what she describes as energetic and subconscious roots—including patterns she believes may extend beyond the current lifetime.
Yes, we’re going there.

When the Logical Explanation Isn’t Enough
Gerlanc knows what it feels like to have an explanation that makes perfect sense…and still doesn’t change anything.
After experiencing severe childhood abuse, she struggled with intense anxiety around leadership and responsibility. She continued stepping into leadership positions, but behind the scenes she describes heart palpitations, fear in groups and an enormous physical toll.
The conventional explanation connected that fear to her childhood experiences. Gerlanc had years of talk therapy and tried modalities including DBT and EMDR. Some helped in certain areas, she says, but the leadership anxiety remained.
Then she encountered Spiritual Response Therapy as a client.
Through that work, Gerlanc says she uncovered what she understood as repeated past-life experiences in which taking positions of power and responsibility as a healer ended in execution—for her and people who followed her.
The underlying story suddenly looked different: leadership wasn’t simply uncomfortable. On what she describes as a soul level, leadership had become associated with danger.
After addressing those experiences through energetic clearing, Gerlanc says her behavior changed. She became more comfortable in groups, followed up with potential clients, closed business and started group programs and community-based work.
For Gerlanc, that distinction matters. A revelation isn’t particularly useful if your actual life stays exactly the same.
Your Soul Called. It Hates Your Sales Strategy.
Consider the entrepreneur who swears she wants clients while some quiet part of her would rather disappear to a beach with a piña colada.
Gerlanc worked with one client whose business primarily operated through LinkedIn, selling résumé packages and career coaching. According to Gerlanc, the woman hadn’t sold a package in eight months and was considering abandoning what she had built.
During their work, Gerlanc says they identified significant resistance around selling and explored what she interpreted as past-life experiences involving power, morals and responsibility.
Within a week of the clearing, Gerlanc says the client sold 10 résumé packages and sent her the invoice receipts.
It’s the kind of story guaranteed to divide a dinner table.
But underneath the spiritual language is a surprisingly relatable question: How available are you for the thing you keep insisting you want?
“You can't give from something you don't have,” Gerlanc says.
If part of you is depleted, resentful or associating success with something dangerous, Gerlanc’s work asks what happens when you stop trying to overpower that resistance—and get curious about why it exists.

The Spiritual Scientist Has Entered the Chat
Gerlanc isn’t interested in demanding blind belief.
Her sessions can happen live over Zoom or remotely, and she uses intake assessments to establish how much distress a client feels around a specific issue. She then tracks whether that number changes, combining pattern recognition and questioning from her clinical training with mediumship and energetic practices.
She calls herself a “spiritual scientist and the detective at the same time.”
That combination may be exactly what makes her work intriguing. Gerlanc isn’t asking clients to abandon questions in favor of spirituality. She keeps asking more of them.
And despite working with prayer, past lives and spiritual teams, she says her practice isn’t tied to a specific religion. Her position is strikingly simple: she isn’t here to tell people what they should believe.
“I feel like you came here to be a sovereign being and to develop your own belief systems that feel in alignment with you."

Maybe You’re Not Broken. Maybe the Program Is Old.
Gerlanc compares these persistent patterns to outdated software.
Something may once have existed to protect you. But protection built for an old reality can become awfully inconvenient when you’re trying to create a new one.
Instead of treating resistance as evidence that you’re failing, Gerlanc wants clients to approach it with curiosity and compassion: What is this trying to protect? What hasn’t been understood yet? What is your soul actually ready to release?
For the entrepreneur convinced she needs another strategy, another affirmation or six more months before she can finally become the person capable of having what she wants, Kristen Gerlanc offers a much stranger possibility.
Maybe you don’t need to become someone else.
Maybe it’s finally time to stop living by a story you no longer need.
And apparently, your soul has been keeping the receipts.
